Dr Martin Smith has completed the postgraduate diploma in therapeutics -Dip Tp(IP) – which enables Dr Smith to diagnose eye disease and to prescribe prescription-only medication to treat eye diseases independently. There are only a small proportion of optometrists who have this qualification.

A private consultation with Dr Smith is a 20 minute consultation for eye conditions, with prescribing if required. Appointments are commonly to investigate the cause of red or sore eyes; sudden vision changes; a blepharitis ‘deep clean; allergies; and follow up appointments to a previous consultation. Private Consultation with dilation and ultra widefield imaging £170.00
A 30 minute consultation with dilation is usually to investigate potential problems with the peripheral retina such as symptoms of flashes and floaters.

Dr Smith will use eye drops to dilate (enlarge) your pupils and examine the back of your eyes. Dilation of the pupils will cause your vision to be blurred and patients should not drive until sight returns to normal which normally takes between 2 and 4 hours but can occasionally take longer.
