How does IPL Help?
IPL works to improve the gland function in several ways. It immediately liquifies solidified extracts in the glands and causes them to expel the abnormal secretions. It also reduces inflammation, shuts off abnormal blood vessels in the lid and kills demodex mites.
What are the results?
Studies show that 85% of people with dry eye find an improvement with IPL and 55% of people are able to stop using eye drops entirely.
What does the treatment involve?
The course involves IPL treatment at days 1, 15 and 45. The treatment itself is quick and relatively painless. Eyeshields protect the eyes and a gel is applied to the treatment areas. A series of 5 flashes along the lower lid and at the temple are performed, then the gel is removed and the same procedure is then carried out on the other eye. A progressive improvement should be notices after each treatment.
How long lasting are the effects?
Depending on the severity of the initial condition, some people need single top up treatments at between 6 months and 3 years to sustain the effect.
